ABOUT ME

Filmmaker . Editor .

Hello! My name is Nat Kapustin - a passionate editor and storytelling set to graduate this upcoming May from Rider University with a degree in Film and Television Production. My time at Rider was foundational for me as filmmaker: it's where I truly discovered my love for editing, collaborated with an incredible network of student filmmakers, and developed my creative voice through hands-on courses, student films, and mentorship from faculty who encouraged me to push my artistic boundaries.

As I like to say whenever someone asks why I want to pursue editing and post-production, I believe that editing is the magic of a film. In my personal opinion, what differentiates a good  film from a great one is when you don't notice the edits. In a way, editing is like that invisible hand that guides the audience's heart and mind, determining when to hold, when to cut, and when to just let something breathe.

Recent Experiences

During my senior year at Rider, I had the unique opportunity to work on two incredibly meaningful short films at the same time - Dear Vivian and Niña Linda.  Dear Vivian is a narrative short about a young piano prodigy navigating grief, familial pressure, and the complex memory of her late mother. As the editor and producer, I was trusted with the responsibility of shaping a story that was emotionally raw. It challenged me to dig deep into the psychological beats of each scene - how long to sit in a silence, when to break it, and how to echo a character’s inner state through pacing and sound. It remains one of the most rewarding experiences of my college career.

Simultaneously, I was cutting Niña Linda, a poetic and intimate short

film that allowed me to lean into lyrical, image-driven storytelling. It reminded me how editing is often about discovering the quietest, most human moments and letting them breath. Balancing both projects sharpened my instincts and deepened my understanding of how editing can shape vastly different tones while still connecting with an audience’s heart.

That same passion carried into my time in Los Angeles during my final semester, where I interned for Delirio Films, a nonfiction production company known for films such as Will & Harper, Mike Wallace is Here, Honey Boy, Becoming Bond  and many more. While there, I spent many hours honing my skills on a variety of projects by organizing footage, cutting sequences, crafting selects, and working closely with the post-production team and how post-production functions in a professional setting.
